Texans' Owen Daniels could miss time with fibula injury

The Houston Texans have struggled to start the regular season, and much of their issues have revolved around starting quarterback Matt Schaub. There's a chance Schaub will be without one of his top targets in the coming weeks, as John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that tight end Owen Daniels could miss time after suffering a leg injury during Sunday's loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Head coach Gary Kubiak told reporters that Daniels was hit on the leg late during Sunday night's game. The injury is reportedly to his fibula, and the Texans are hoping that he is only dealing with a bone bruise. He underwent an MRI yesterday to determine the extent of the injury, and those results should be coming out soon. They'll help determine Daniels' status moving forward, but there at least appears to be a chance that he could be sidelined for a period of time as a result of the leg ailment.

Daniels is second on the team, behind only All-Pro wide receiver Andre Johnson, with 24 catches for 252 yards. He leads the team with three touchdowns receptions. Daniels was Houston's leading receiver against the 49ers, catching six passes for 60 yards.

If Daniels is forced to miss time, the Texans will use Garrett Graham as their starting tight end. He's also caught three touchdown passes this season, and he could see significant targets in a starting role.
