The Buffalo Bills have placed kicker Dustin Hopkins on injured reserve due to a groin injury per Buffalo Bills twitter account.
Hopkin beat out veteran kicker Rian Lindell during training camp and suffered the groin injury a week before the season opener. The groin injury did not allow Hopkins to play in the regular season and that is the reason behind Dan Carpenter being signed. Last week it seemed that Hopkins was recovering from the injury, but the rookie was still struggling during kickoffs.
Head coach Doug Marrone told reporters on Monday, "way behind in that movement" and that is why the decision was made to end Hopkins season. Hopkins made all six of his field goal tries in the preseason. Carpenter, who was let go by numerous teams, has done a good job going 11 of 12 field goals made in the regular season.
Hopkins was drafted in last year's NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round out of Florida State University. In Florida State, he was named first-team all ACC in 2012 and had a record breaking 442 points on 26 field goals, a NCAA Division I FBS record.
