The Jacksonville Jaguars travel to St. Louis this Sunday to play the 1-3 Rams. The Jaguars will get back second-year receiver Justin Blackmon, who is coming off a four-game suspension. With a number of players already ruled out this week, Blackmon should help bolster a Jacksonville team that is still looking for their first win this season.
Starting tight end has already been ruled out this week after trying returning last week and re-injuring his calf after two plays. Lewis has yet to make a catch this season, and he could miss more time with continuing calf problems.
Here is a complete Jaguars' week five injury list.
Will Play: Alan Ball (groin), Geno Hayes (hip flexor), Roy Miller (shoulder)
Both Ball and Miller have been dealing with injuries for a couple of weeks now, but both defensive players should be ready to start on Sunday. Hayes suffered a hip flexor in last week's loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The sixth-year linebacker has been limited in practice all week, but he should be good to go against St. Louis.
Questionable: Cecil Shorts III (groin)
Shorts will be a game-time decision. The Jaguars' top receiver suffered a groin injury earlier in the week and sat out practice on Wednesday and Friday. Shorts leads the team in receiving with 26 receptions for 337 yards, but if the third-year receiver isn't ready to play on Sunday, the Jaguars will be relying on recently-returned Blackmon to fill in as Blaine Gabbert's top target.
Out: Mike Brown (back), Stephen Burton (concussion), Dwayne Gratz (ankle), Mercedes Lewis (calf), Dwight Lowery (concussion), Jeremy Mincey (concussion)
Jacksonville has ruled out several players this week. Gratz continues to miss time with the ankle injury. Lewis may be out of the lineup for awhile yet. Both Brown and Burton appear to be a ways away from returning this season, and with Shorts already questionable, the receiver position is looking thin.
Starting free safety Dwight Lowery will miss his third straight week with a concussion. Rookie safety Josh Evans will get the start again in Lowery's place.
