The San Francisco 49ers finally made it official with the signing of former starting Arizona Cardinals quarterback John Skelton. It was announced as a one-year deal. It's very interesting that they brought him onto the 53-man roster.
They have another veteran backup quarterback on the roster in former Browns quarterback Colt McCoy. Skelton in my mind will probably get the backup job to starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick if he gets hurt this year.
When John Skelton played for Kevin Kolb in Arizona, he led the Cardinals to a 5-2 record. He threw for almost 2,000 yards that season with 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Certainly that's not the best stats but he's a very experienced backup quarterback. We'll see if he gets any playing time this year if Kaepernick gets hurt this year.
