Texans make final cuts to get down to 53-man roster

The Houston Texans have announced their final roster cuts on Saturday. The team released 21 players to shape their final roster.  They have also taken newly acquired safety Ed Reed off the PUP list and activated him on their roster. In addition to the cuts, the Texans placed three rookies on injured reserve to get down to 53 players on their roster.

Here is a comprehensive list of their roster cuts:

Offense - TE Jake Byrne, RB Dennis Johnson, RB Deji Karim, FB Tyler Clutts, WR Andy Cruse, WR EZ Nwachukwu G/C Tyler Horn, G/C Alex Cupper, T Nate Menkin

Defense - DE Keith Browner, DE Delano Johnson, NT Chris Jones, ILB Cameron Collins, ILB Mike Mohamed, CB Roc Carmichael, CB Elbert Mack, S Orhian Johnson, S Jawanza Starling

The Texans also released DL Daniel Muir with an injury settlement and will waive NT David Hunter and WR Mike Smith with injury settlements, as well.

Rookies Alan Bonner, Brennan Williams, and Trevardo Williams were placed on IR. Bonner is a 5-10, 193 pound receiver out of Jacksonville State and was taken by Houston in the sixth round. Brennan Williams is a towering 6-6 tackle out of North Carolina, and the Texans were counting on the third-round pick to provide some depth at right tackle. Trevardo Williams is a fourth-round pick from Connecticut who was supposed to be a factor at outside linebacker in the Texans' defense before getting injured.

The Texans are now down to 53 players on their roster, but don't expect roster moves to end just yet. Teams call still claim players off the waiver wire today and sign players to their practice squad.
