Colts release 19 players to shape final roster

The Indianapolis Colts have announced their final roster cuts and have shaped their 53-man roster. On Saturday the team announced the release of 19 players and waived/injured three players. Waive/injured players go on the team's injured reserve if no other NFL teams claim them off the waiver wire. Colts are now down to their final 53 and are ready to kickstart the regular season.

Here is a comprehensive list of the team's roster cuts:

Offense - QB Chandler Harnish, FB Robert Hughes, TE Dominique Jones, WR Jeremy Kelley, WR Jabin Sambrano, C Thomas Austin, T Ben Ijalana, T Bradley Sowell, T Lee Siemba

Defense - DE Lawerence Guy, DT Drake Nevis, NT Martin Tevaseu, OLB Daniel Adongo, LB Josh McNary, LB Monte Simmons, CB Marshay Green, CB Sheldon Price, S Larry Asante

Waive/Injured - T Emmet Cleary, LB Shawn Loiseau, and CB Daxton Swanson

Offensive tackle Ben Ijalana is a bit of a surprise cut, considering he was the team's fourth-round pick in 2011. Ilajana has dealt with injuries in his young career. He was placed on the team's IR halfway through his rookie season in 2011, and he could never quite return from the injury and be the player the team drafted.

Defensive tackle Drake Nevis is another 2011 draft pick that couldn't quite put it altogether and make an impact on the team. He was taken in the third round and expected to contribute on defense, but in two seasons, Nevis only managed three starts and one sack.

After players clear the waiver wire today, the Colts will be able to sign players to their practice squad. With their roster finalized, the Colts will begin preparing for their season opener against the Oakland Raiders.
