Patriots' Sebastian Vollmer Misses Practice Again

For the second consecutive day, New England Patriots right tackle Sebastian Vollmer was absent from practice Thursday. Vollmer missed the second half of last Sunday's victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, after injuring his foot. The Boston Herald reported Wednesday that the injury to Vollmer's foot is not as serious as feared:

According to a source, Vollmer suffered a "foot sprain." While his status for Sunday night's game in Atlanta remains in doubt, he appears to be more of a day-to-day proposition rather than being out for several weeks.

Vollmer was replaced in the second half by third-year lineman Marcus Cannon. Cannon figures to fill in at right tackle for any period of time Vollmer may miss due to the injury.

Although Vollmer seems very doubtful for the Sunday night game, if the reports are true and Vollmer's foot is just sprained, he shouldn't miss extended time. Considering Vollmer left the stadium Sunday in a walking boot, a sprain is just about the best case scenario the Patriots could have hoped for at this point.
