Buccaneers Injury Report: Carl Nicks, Tom Crabtree & Erik Loring OUT

Pro Bowl guard Carl Nicks has been infected with MRSA and it will officially leave him out of the Bucs' lineup in Week 1 against the New York Jets according to Mike Wilkening.  We had reported earlier this week that Nicks' probability of playing this weekend were rather slim.

Former Chicago Bears’ first-round pick Gabe Carimi whom was acquired via trade this past June has been taking the majority of first team reps at left guard and will fill in for the injured Nicks.

Along with Nicks, tight end Tom Crabtree and fullback Erik Loring are officially out.  Crabtree will most likely have a replacement committee that consists of Luke Stocker, Nate Byham and Tim Wright.  While Loring is the only FB on the Bucs' roster, there is a chance that 250 pound running back Peyton Hillis will fill in as needed.

Nicks was injured in his first season with Tampa Bay with a plantar plate injury that ended his season in 2012 after only appearing in seven games.  While the Bucs still managed to put up strong offensive numbers from rookie Doug Martin and signal caller Josh Freeman in 2012, the absence of Nicks is not how Tampa Bay would envision the start of a new season.
