Chris
Wesseling of NFL.com reports that New England Patriots tight end Rob
Gronkowski and wide receiver Danny Amendola are close to returning. Gronkowski might be ahead of Amendola in
being able to play but the possibility of one or both coming back is welcomed
news for the Patriots and their torpid offense.
I have maintained since the beginning of the season that Gronkowski would come back either Week 3 or Week 4, otherwise, there was no reason to leave him off the injured reserve designated for return list. How would the Pats' offense look if Gronk was on the IR-DFR list and Tim Tebow was in their red zone offensive packages? I bet all of the money in my wife’s Hello Kitty wallet they would be much better than they are right now.
Gronkowski is almost certain to play Sunday night against the Atlanta Falcons unless there is an unforeseen setback. Amendola however, is a little further behind.
As awful as it sounds and this is not a menu item at Davio’s, but Amendola's groin was “torn off the bone,” which means that it cannot get any worse. It is more of a pain tolerance issue now.
Amendola is limited in practice this week but is moving less gingerly. He will likely be out against the Falcons although he is confident he will return soon and be back at 100%.
Currently, there is no timetable for Amendola's return.
UPDATE:
Mike
Florio of NBCSports reports that it is less optimistic that Gronkowski will
play Sunday night. For the Patriots,
they already know if Gronkowski will be playing, for the rest of
us, it will be a game time decision. I
stand by my original prediction that Gronkowski plays and if he does not, the
Patriots have plenty of explaining to do.
UPDATE 9/27 5:37PM EST:
Oh those pesky Patriots.
Josh
Alper of NBCSports now reports that Amendola and Gronkowski are playing
Sunday “as of today.” If you mates
follow me, you already know my rule on the Patriots.
My guess is that Gronkowski plays and Amendola does not.
Stay with me for updates and catch my final Patriots' injury report before game day.

Somehow I think he'll be injured again shortly after returning. They rushed him back last season and look how that worked out. The Pats don't need him this week, they need him for the playoffs.

Preeti. Thank you for reading. I agree with you on all points except one. They need him this week if they want to win against the Falcons. He would jump start a poor red zone offense and add some spark. I will be posting an update soon. Check back
ReplyDeletethats assuming they get to the playoffs Preeni.
ReplyDeleteNutter, great point and thank you for reading. With all else being equal, they should make the playoffs and I look for them to do so.
