Steelers injury updates: Le'Veon Bell, Heath Miller

Injuries were an issue for the Pittsburgh Steelers early in the preseason, but the team has received good news of late, specifically relating to running back Le'Veon Bell and tight end Heath Miller. Bell recently shed the walking boot that was protecting his mid-foot sprain, while Miller has been progressing well in his return from ACL surgery.

F. Dale Lolley of the Observer Reporter noted the other day that Bell is no longer wearing his walking boot. While that's certainly a good sign, Lolley said that the rookie running back remains out indefinitely.

Some feared that Bell would be lost for the season when his name became tied to Lisfranc. However, coach Mike Tomlin has been more optimistic, and it looks like he might be able to return before the second half of the regular season begins.

In the meantime, Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer are expected to see a majority of time in the Steelers' backfield.

Heath Miller

While Miller's been ruled out for Thursday's preseason finale, Tomlin had a positive report on the tight end. The head coach told reporters -- including Teresa Varley of Steelers.com -- that Miller is "doing great."
“He’s doing great. He really is,” said Coach Mike Tomlin. “We’re going to look more hardcore at him when we get back from Carolina. But the fact that I mentioned his name would give an indication that things are progressing and progressing nicely.”
Like Bell, Miller continues to say that he's unsure when he'll rejoin the Steelers, just saying that he's been feeling good.
“I am feeling good,” said Miller. “Still trying to get better every day and take it day-by-day. I am just trying to get stronger and better at what I am doing so when I come back I am ready to play and play at a good level.”
