Since signing with the Seattle Seahawks this offseason,
Cliff Avril has dealt with several injuries that have kept him off the playing
field. After missing a large chunk of offseason workouts due to his foot
injury, Avril was sidelined for part of training camp with a hamstring ailment.
He’s now aggravated that hamstring injury, causing head coach Pete Carroll to list
the defensive end as out indefinitely, according to Pro Football Talk.
Carroll told 710 ESPN yesterday that he’s not sure when
Avril will return for the Seahawks after aggravating his hamstring injury
during warm-ups prior to the team’s most recent preseason contest against the
Green Bay Packers.
Seattle’s defense did well before Avril was acquired, so
they should be able to survive if his recent setback causes him to miss the
start of the regular season. Still, he was viewed as one of the team’s top offseason
acquisitions, and he came over from the Detroit Lions with high expectations.
In Avril’s absence, PFT mentions that Benson Mayowa could
see more time with the Seahawks. Mayowa, an undrafted free agent, has impressed
folks in Seattle’s camp, and he figures to see an uptick in playing time with
Avril on the shelf.
