Redskins' Donte' Stallworth hopes to play Saturday

Washington Redskins wide receiver Donte' Stallworth says he hopes to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Buffalo Bills at Fed Ex Field, according to the Washington Post.

Stallworth was sidelined from Monday Night's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a strained hamstring. He returned to practice Wednesday and remains hopeful that he can suit up on Saturday and make his case for a spot on the Redskins' 53 man roster.

"It's tough because you only have so much time in the preseason with the way the preseason is scheduled, and especially towards the end of the preseason, which we are in now," Stallworth said. " It’s very imperative for me personally that I can get back out there and not only perform well but be healthy performing well at the same time."
Injuries can be a players' worst enemy when fighting for a roster spot, especially for a proven veteran like Stallworth. The league knows that Stallworth has the skill set necessary to be a productive wide receiver in the NFL. However, if he can't show that he is fully healthy, the Redskins would be more likely to let him go. If Stallworth is healthy and ends up making the final cut, it makes the Redskins receiving core just a little bit more dangerous, and for quarterback Robert Griffin III, that could be all it takes to push the Redskins to the next level.
