Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan has set the bar
on the upcoming season; Super Bowl or bust. During a recent press conference,
Shanahan told reporters that Redskins’ players have “set the expectations:
anything short of a Super Bowl is failure.”

Shanahan is a Super Bowl champion from his time with John
Elway and the Denver Broncos, so he has the credentials to be able to identify
what a Super Bowl contender looks like.
However, this would be a lot easier to swallow if starting
quarterback Robert Griffin III wasn’t coming off of major knee surgery, which
puts the start of his season in question. Beyond the start of his season, there
are questions surrounding whether or not Griffin’s role will change, and even
if he’ll ever be the quarterback he once was following the devastating injury.
For his part, RGIII is right behind his coach, as he told
reporters that everyone in the organization is focusing on winning
championships.

What do we expect them to say? “Well, we’d really like to
win the so-so NFC East and make a good showing in the playoffs.”
New seasons bring high hopes and expectations. Anything is
possible with Griffin under center, but the Redskins won’t enter the season as
one of the top favorites in the NFC, and they may not even be a favorite in
their own division.
