Rookie cornerback D.J. Hayden made his debut last night for the Oakland Raiders. The number 12 overall pick in this years draft had been out due to heart problems. Hayden had three pass attempts thrown his way and two went for completions with one pass break up that was nearly intercepted.
Last fall, during practice Hayden was in a collision with one of his teammates while trying to break up a pass and took a knee to the chest. It looked like a routine play, but Hayden went down and stayed down. They later found out that Hayden had suffered a torn vein close to his heart and it was a nearly fatal injury. Last night was the first real football contact for Hayden since the devastating injury last fall.
Hayden will get his second chance to show his skills August 29th, when they take on the Seahawks. Hayden is just now getting his feet wet in the NFL, but it was an encouraging debut and he will look to build on to it next week.
