Entering the preseason, many wondered if quarterback Joe
Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens would be able to duplicate their productivity
considering so many receiver options had been lost since the end of their Super
Bowl-winning campaign, including Dennis Pitta and Anquan Boldin. While this
appeared to be a concern for the team early on, it apparently no longer is, as
head coach John Harbaugh told reporters – including John Eisenberg ofBaltimoreRavens.com – that the Ravens are willing to consider trades for their
young wide receivers.
“Those guys all played well. We’ve got a bunch of guys, and I would like to think that we would hear from somebody, and some of the calls that we make would yield some fruit in the next 24 hours,” he said. “We’re heavy at certain positions, we’ve got players, and we’re not going to just let a good player walk out the door here. We’re just not going to do it.”
Eisenberg notes that Tandon Doss would seem to be the
likeliest candidate to be traded. At this point, veterans Torrey Smith, Jacoby Jones and Brandon Stokley are locks to make the team, and Harbaugh added that
the prospects look “good” for rookies Marlon Brown and Aaron Mellette.
Beyond Doss, the third-year receiver, that leaves other wide
outs such as Deonte Thompson and LaQuan Williams susceptible to trade or release.
Baltimore has until this evening to finalize its roster, meaning there could be
trades on the near horizon.
