The Oakland Raiders are hoping for big things from running
back Darren McFadden, who is entering a contract year, this season. As such,
there is some expectation that McFadden accumulates the best totals he can this
year in an effort to score big on the free agent market. While there’s a chance
McFadden could be playing elsewhere next season, he told CSN Bay Area that he loves
being a Raider and is interested in being with the team “as long as they want
to have me.”
“I love being a Raider,” McFadden said after Tuesday’s practice. “As long as they want to bring me back and have me here for as long as they want to have me – I love being a Raider, and I’m here.”
While McFadden is open to a contract extension, he says
that, to this point, the Raiders have not reached out to him regarding a new
deal.
It wouldn’t make sense for the Raiders or McFadden to ink a
long-term extension at this point. McFadden has been all over the place with
his production, and he’s dealt with injuries throughout his career. This makes
it hard to reach an agreement on a contract, and it also is hard for the
Raiders to determine if they even want to keep him around beyond 2013.
