In an expected move, the Seattle Seahawks have announced
that they will start the season with wide receiver Percy Harvin on the
physically unable to perform list. As such, Harvin isn’t eligible to be
activated to the team’s official roster until Week 7.
Pro Football Talk adds the details of starting the season on
the PUP list. The Seahawks will have five weeks after Week 6 to activate Harvin
for practice purposes. Once Harvin is activated, Seattle will have three weeks
to place him on the 53-man roster. They can also elect to keep him sidelined
for the remainder of the season.
PFT notes that the Seahawks considered using the injured
reserve tag on Harvin that would allow the team to bring him back this season.
However, Seattle only has one such designation, and they weren’t sure they
wanted to use it on a player this early in the season.
When the Seahawks acquired Harvin from the Minnesota Vikings
over the offseason, they were expecting him to be healthy to start Week 1. The
hip procedure he was forced to undergo was a surprise for the team, and now
they are dealing with the ramifications.
