Colts hoping Anthony Castonzo can play Week 1

The Indianapolis Colts have already ruled left tackle Anthony Castonzo out for the team’s final preseason contest due to his sprained MCL. Still, head coach Chuck Pagano told reporters that the club is hopeful Castonzo will return in time to suit up for Week 1 of the regular season.
“Yeah, got the MRI and it, like we talked last night, pretty much came back as a mild MCL sprain,” Coach Chuck Pagano said, in comments distributed by the team. “The MRI was pretty much negative. It wasn’t as bad as anybody anticipated, so he’s going to be day-to-day. He won’t play, obviously, in this next contest but hopefully be ready for the opener.”
The Colts are currently listing Castonzo as day to day with his knee injury. Pagano said that the ailment isn’t as bad as anyone anticipated, and the MRI came back negative, indicating the mild MCL sprain. While this is all good news, and signals that Castonzo won’t be sidelined for an extended stretch, it still remains to be determined if he’ll be able to return in time for the regular-season opener.

Castonzo isn’t the only Colts’ starting lineman that’s sidelined with injury, as right guard Mike McGlynn is also dealing with a knee ailment. Pagano is hopeful that both are able to return in time for Sept. 8 so they can protect quarterback Andrew Luck from the Oakland Raiders.
