During the team’s third preseason game last night, the
Indianapolis Colts were without their two top tight ends, as Coby Fleener and
Dwayne Allen were out with injuries.
Fleener continues to recover from a sprained right knee. He
was sidelined by a concussion earlier in training camp, but he’s since been
cleared of that. It’s not clear what impact his current knee injury will have
on the start of the regular season, but the Colts haven’t indicated that the
tight end is at risk of missing Week 1.
Allen is a little farther along in his recovery from injury,
as he returned to Colts’ practice last week. Still, head coach Chuck Pagano
decided on Thursday that Allen wouldn’t suit up for the team’s third preseason
game, as the team continues to take a precautious approach with his right foot
injury.
Fleener, who was teammates at Stanford with quarterback
Andrew Luck, is expected by many to take a big step forward this season. He
should have an opportunity to show what he can do starting Week 1, and it also
sounds like Allen will be available for the start of the regular season.
