Denver Broncos cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie had to
be carted off the practice field yesterday after he suffered a left ankle
sprain. After being evaluated by the team’s training staff, the Broncos
announced that Rodgers-Cromartie is expected to miss two to three weeks of
action as a result of the injury, according to Caitlin Swieca of The Denver
Post.
Rodgers-Cromartie suffered the injury during one-on-one
drills. He went up against rookie wide receiver Quincy McDuffie and landed
awkwardly on his left leg.
While head coach John Fox admitted he’s concerned his
cornerback has to miss time, he’s confident that Rodgers-Cromartie will be able
to return in time to suit up for Denver’s regular season opener against the
Baltimore Ravens.
"He's done it before, so I'm not overly (concerned)," Broncos coach John Fox said. "But any time you miss time, I'm concerned."
The Broncos signed Rodgers-Cromartie as a free agent after parting ways with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, inking the veteran corner to a
one-year, $5 million deal.
Beyond Rodgers-Cromartie, the Broncos were also without
defensive tackle Sylvester Williams and tight end Jacob Tamme yesterday.
Williams continues to recover from a knee injury he suffered on Monday, while
Fox said Tamme is dealing with a right quad ailment.
