49ers’ Patrick Willis suffers hand injury

San Francisco 49ers All-Pro linebacker Patrick Willis suffered a hand injury during yesterday’s practice, and he’s set to undergo X-rays today to determine the extent of the damage, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.

Willis suffered the injury to his right hand early on during yesterday’s practice. He was experiencing discomfort in the hand, and he was eventually examined by the team’s medical staff. Willis was then seen with his hand wrapped in ice as he watched the final two hours of practice from the sideline.

It’s unclear exactly when Willis suffered the injury, or if it was something that’s been a lingering issue. Whatever the case, San Francisco is having him take X-rays to see if it’s something serious.

Willis has played through hand injuries before, as in 2007 he played with a cast on his right hand and did not miss any games. He then played two full games with a broken hand in 2010.

Beyond Willis, fellow linebacker NaVorro Bowman is also a bit banged up. The All-Pro sat out the final part of yesterday’s practice after missing Tuesday’s session due to a strained groin.
