The defending Superbowl champion Baltimore Ravens have lost Jameel McClain and Kapron Lewis-Moore to the PUP list. Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun is reporting both players have been placed on the reserve PUP list making them ineligible for the fist six weeks. McClain tallied 79 tackles before suffering a season-ending spinal contusion against the Washington Redskins in Week 14 last season. Lewis-Moore is still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in the BCS National Title Game.
McClain is expected to start at weak-side inside linebacker when he returns and the Raven's are hopeful he will return to his productive ways. However Lewis-Moore has been expected to miss the entire season since he was the 200th overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft. A top-ranked defense has been a mainstay in Baltimore, however this season it will look a little different. Not one but two future NFL Hall of Famers have moved on as Ray Lewis rode of into the sunset after the Superbowl victory while Ed Reed left for the Houston Texans.
Is it possible that the Ravens defense may have actually gotten better despite losing seven starters? Consider this; Elvis Dumervil comes to Baltimore after the Bronco's staff flubs faxing his contract, Speedy free-agent Michael Huff is signed from Oakland, DT Chris Canty came over from the New York Giants and the first four draft picks were used for defense. Dumervil and Terrell Suggs should combine to make one of the most feared tandems in the league. Age and experience in big games were the trademark of the defense and now change that to youth a speed.
