I think it is very important to note that Holmes said “myself” first and “team” second. There is no “I” in team, but there is a “me.” Holmes is a “me” type player. Always has been and always will be. More so in this case, what is best for Holmes might not coincide with what is best for the Jets.
Let us be real here folks. What is going on here is that Holmes is a realist. He knows the Jets are not going to the playoffs this year and he knows that the Jets do not even know who will be the quarterback from one game to the next. Therefore, Holmes has an out. He hangs his hard hat on the Lisfranc injury tree and he sits under it waiting for the proper time to make his move. The Jets know what he is doing and they purchased a ticket on this drama train when Holmes put on a green uniform.

Alper of NBCSports reports that even though Holmes is practicing and
running routes (at half speed) and been added to the active roster, Holmes has
yet to put a timetable on his return.
Holmes in a statement made through the team stated, “I have a long
career ahead of me, so I’m going to take the best risk and the best chances for
myself and for the team.”

I am not sure what is worse, a “me” type player or a team
who knows it has one and keeps the “me” and ditches the “we.”
