Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback EJ. Manuel left little doubt throughout the first two preseason games that he is the new team leader. The Bills showed they missed his leadership in a lifeless 30-7 loss in week three to the Washington Redskins. After undergoing minor knee surgery Manuel, has been chomping at the bit to get back and start week one of the regular season against the New England Patriots. Manuel began doing foot work and cardio earlier this week and although he hasn't been cleared to throw Manuel says he feels great. First year head coach Doug Marrone is not as optimistic and implies this is EJ's competitive spirit talking.
C.J Spiller is arguably the most explosive player in the entire NFL, add veteran wide receiver Stevie Johnson and GM Doug Whaley had a good base to start with. Whaley decided to add a few more weapons at wide-out by drafting former USC great Robert Woods, and Marques Flash Goodwin. Goodwin has already returned one kickoff for 107 yards this pre-season. Given the Bills can keep all of their weapons healthy they should be an intriging team to watch down the stretch.

"Right now, he's telling me he's ready to go, but obviously he's not. That's the mentality of EJ. I'm excited about it; I've watched him do footwork drills and cones. I've watched him ride a bike, you talk to the kid and you'd think he's starting on thursday."Josh Alper of NBC Sports is reporting that Marrone will not only base his decision on the doctor, but also if the clearance comes with enough practice time. You can't blame him for being very cautious with Manuel who the Bills have chosen to lead the franchise into this new era. The good news for Bills fans is that when Manuel does return they easily have the most explosive team in the AFC East.

I personally think that if EJ is ready by Sunday, don't start him. See how Tuel is playing and put EJ in for a few drives so he can get a feel for the Pats defense now than at the end of the season...if that makes any sense..

Preeti,
DeleteI could see why you think that would be a good option. It seems as though Coach Marrone will either say go or no go versus putting EJ in for limited action. The Bills will be very cautious with him as he will lead the franchise going forward. Thanks for reading the article!
