The Pittsburgh Steelers appear set to lose free agent
linebacker James Harrison, and the team could look to the draft to replace the
pass rusher. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk speculates that Georgia
linebacker Jarvis Jones could be a potential target for the team when they make
their selection at No. 17 overall in a few weeks.
The Steelers have hosted Jones this offseason, and with
Harrison likely to sign with the Cincinnati Bengals they could pursue a
replacement linebacker. Pittsburgh isn’t opposed to taking linebackers high in
the draft, as Lawrence Timmons was a previous first-round selection.
It’s hard to say whether or not Jones will be available to
Pittsburgh when they make their pick. The linebacker entered the offseason with
a history of spinal stenosis – which has caused concern for the possibility of
a significant neck injury. However, he’s also received full medical clearance
and was a solid player in the SEC.
