Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell told reporters
– including Ryan O’Halloran of The Florida Times-Union – that the team has
narrowed down who it will select No. 2 overall in the upcoming NFL Draft to two
players.
“We’re pretty close — it’s down to two people,” Caldwell said in a phone interview.
At this point, only three people – Caldwell, owner Shad Khan
and coach Gus Bradley – will know who the pick will be prior to the team’s
selection. While such a high pick is counted on to turn into a significant
player, the first-year GM Caldwell said he believes he’ll be up for the task.
There have been several names floating around at No. 2 on
mock drafts – including Defensive ends Ziggy Ansah of Brigham Young and Dion
Jordan of Oregon and West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith. O’Halloran also
notes that Florida defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd is among those considered,
while the top of the draft is said to be heavy in offensive lineman.
Caldwell added that he doesn’t expect to receive a trade
offer enticing enough to move the Jaguars off their No. 2 selection.
