It’s been reported that St. Louis Rams offensive lineman
Rodger Saffold isn’t happy about his pending switch to right tackle. However, those
close to Saffold insist the lineman isn’t unhappy enough to holdout through the
start of the year, according to Jim Thomas of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Saffold is expected to participate in the Rams’ offseason
conditioning program – which begins on Monday. These are voluntary, but Saffold
plans on attending, just as he does the team’s minicamps, OTAs, training camp
and preseason.
Saffold is entering the final year of his contract, and he
plans on doing everything it takes to protect that deal and put himself in the
best position he can entering the free agent market. It doesn’t appear that the
lineman has officially requested a trade, though his representation has told
St. Louis that he wouldn’t be opposed to being dealt.
Saffold is slated to be shifted to right tackle after the
Rams’ signing of free agent left tackle Jake Long.
