Rumors of potential New England Patriots’ interest in free
agent Terrell Owens began swirling when the wide receiver was seen catching
passes from quarterback Tom Brady while they worked out together at the
University of Southern California. However, speculation was quickly squashed,
as Jeff Howe of The Boston Herald reported yesterday that the Patriots do not
have interest in Owens.
While Owens does want to continue his playing career in the
NFL, there is nothing going on between the veteran and the Patriots. Owens has
been discussing a potential return with several teams throughout the offseason,
but New England isn’t one of them.
Owens has been out of the NFL since the 2010 season, as he’s
been dealing with injuries over the past couple of years. In 2010 – as a member
of the Cincinnati Bengals – Owens caught 72 passes for 983 yards and nine
touchdowns.
