The Carolina Panthers are set to host New York Giants free
agent wide receiver Domenic Hixon today, according to Joseph Person of The
Charlotte Observer.
Hixon has spent the past five seasons with the Giants. He
appeared in 13 games last year, catching 39 passes for 567 yards and two
touchdowns.
If the Panthers were able to sign Hixon, he would slide in
as their No. 3 receiver behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell. Hixon is also an
option to return kicks. He would essentially replace Louis Murphy – who signed
with the Giants earlier this offseason – as Carolina’s third wide out.
Hixon has also visited with the Oakland Raiders and Cleveland
Browns, as both teams reportedly have mild interest in the veteran receiver. He
also reportedly turned down an offer from the Detroit Lions at the start of the
free agency period.
