Packers rumors: Aaron Rodgers wants deal by Apr. 15

The Green Bay Packers have been holding negotiations with quarterback Aaron Rodgers on a contract extension that is expected to make him the highest-paid player in the NFL. The sides appear to be close to a deal, but Rodgers has now come out and said he’d like for a new contract to be signed by April 15, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Rodgers arrives for offseason conditioning on the 15th – according to Rapoport – and it appears the QB is setting the date as a “benchmark” for negotiations. He’s also said that he doesn’t plan on sitting out from conditioning or holding out during the season if he doesn’t get a new contract, which further signals that something is likely to get done in the near future.

It’s recently been reported that the Packers and Rodgers are roughly $2 million per year off in negotiations. Whatever the case, the QB’s next contract is expected to surpass the one that Joe Flacco recently signed with the Baltimore Ravens.
