Former Oakland Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain has
officially cleared waivers, and at least five teams – including three who’ve
made offers – have expressed interest in the newly minted unrestricted free
agent, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Monday on "NFL Total Access" that McClain already has received three offers from interested teams, according to a source close to the player. Two additional teams are said to have interest.
Rapoport added that the free agent is expected to sign
fairly quickly. Considering the level of interest being expressed in him, this shouldn’t
be a surprise.
McClain served as a headache for the Raiders, but he’s still
only 23 years old and did show flashes of his ability in Oakland. The former
No. 8 overall pick accounts for $11 million in dead money on Oakland’s books,
but he’ll look to make a new start elsewhere.
NFL.com speculates that McClain could look to sign an
incentivized one-year contract. This would allow him to boost his value and
reach the free agent market a year from now in hopes of cashing in on a more
lucrative and long-term deal.
