The Bengals have been in search of at least one running back
throughout the offseason. There is thought that they’d like someone that offers
a dynamic ability to pair with bruiser BenJarvus Green-Ellis.
While Jones might not fill this role, he does provide the
team with a candidate to fill the position of third-down back. Jones was never
able to stay healthy enough to hold onto a consistent starting job with the
Cowboys. Still, considering his career totals – 4.8 yards-per-carry – the back
could latch on with another team and get an opportunity to show what he’s still
capable of.
It’s unclear if the Bengals want to go with a veteran such
as Jones or wait to select a younger player with more upside in the draft.
Cincinnati could hold off on negotiations with Jones until they find out if
they’re able to address the need with a selection later this month.
