Nothing is imminent for free agent linebacker Brian
Urlacher, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. Florio adds that Urlacher
is talking to a few teams – all of which are contenders – and he’s only
interested in joining a club that offers him a chance to compete for a Super
Bowl next season.
Earlier this offseason, Urlacher and his former team – the Chicago
Bears – exchanged contract figures. Urlacher proposed a deal, and Chicago
responded with what he called a one-year “ultimatum” for $2 million.
Urlacher doesn’t believe it’s worth it to sign such a deal,
so it appeared that the door was shut on a potential reunion. However, Chicago
has since come out and said they would not totally close the door on bringing
Urlacher back.
Florio notes that while “the Bears opening the door a crack
for Urlacher, Urlacher currently isn’t ready to push.” It’s not impossible that
he returns to Chicago, but his primary goal at this point is joining a
potential winner.
