NFL rumors: Brian Urlacher wants to play for contender

Nothing is imminent for free agent linebacker Brian Urlacher, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. Florio adds that Urlacher is talking to a few teams – all of which are contenders – and he’s only interested in joining a club that offers him a chance to compete for a Super Bowl next season.

Earlier this offseason, Urlacher and his former team – the Chicago Bears – exchanged contract figures. Urlacher proposed a deal, and Chicago responded with what he called a one-year “ultimatum” for $2 million.

Urlacher doesn’t believe it’s worth it to sign such a deal, so it appeared that the door was shut on a potential reunion. However, Chicago has since come out and said they would not totally close the door on bringing Urlacher back.

Florio notes that while “the Bears opening the door a crack for Urlacher, Urlacher currently isn’t ready to push.” It’s not impossible that he returns to Chicago, but his primary goal at this point is joining a potential winner.
