Falcons rumors: Tony Gonzalez ‘100 percent sure’ this is final season

Last season, Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez threw around a lot of different percentages in trying to explain the likelihood of returning for another season. However, the veteran told Pro Football Talk yesterday that he’s 100-percent sure that 2013 will be his last year playing professional football.

Appearing today on PFT Live, Gonzalez said that he’s now 100-percent sure that 2013 will be his last year in football.

Gonzalez does have a two-year contract, but that was more for salary cap purposes than to indicate that the tight end will actually be around beyond 2013.

Considering the drama that unfolded at the end of last year and into the offseason, I’ll believe that Gonzalez is done when there are games going on and he’s not on an active roster. He told PFT that he’s still tempted to try and break Jerry Rice’s receiving record. Considering the mark stands at 1,242, Gonzalez is only 307 catches behind the all-time great.
