The New England Patriots are likely to add a wide receiver
through the upcoming NFL Draft, according to Michael David Smith of Pro
Football Talk.
Smith notes that five wide receivers caught passes for the
Patriots last season, and none of those players are currently under contract
for the team.
The Patriots did sign St. Louis Rams free agent wide
receiver Danny Amendola earlier this offseason, and he’s likely to claim one of
the starting roles – potentially as a Wes Welker-type in New England’s offense.
Still, the Patriots will need to add at least one other wide
receiver through the draft as they continue to fill out their roster. New
England has had visits from USC Robert Woods, Oklahoma’s Kenny Still and Oregon
State’s Markus Wheaton. Smith notes that Wheaton is specifically the type of versatile
player New England covets, as he saw time at wide receiver and running back
during his time at Oregon State.
