There has been trade speculation surrounding New York Jets
cornerback Darrelle Revis and a potential deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However,
Revis might not be the only Jets’ player heading to Tampa Bay in a trade, as Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports New York could also ship quarterback Mark
Sanchez to the Bucs.
PFT hears from a source that there have been discussions
between the Jets and Bucs that have included the possibility of Tampa Bay
assuming the contract of Sanchez. It’s important to remember that this would be
no small task, as Sanchez is guaranteed $8.25 million in 2013.
This is certainly a wrinkle, as the Bucs already have who
many consider to be their starter in Josh Freeman. However, there have been
rumblings that head coach Greg Schiano would like to add competition at the
position to push Freeman.
Unloading Sanchez would certainly improve the prospects of
trading Revis, and it should lessen the return New York requires for the All-Pro
cornerback.
