The New York Jets added several parts to their offense last
night, selecting quarterback Geno Smith and guard Brian Winters in the draft.
New York also acquired running back Chris Ivory from the New Orleans Saints in
exchange for a fourth-round pick – No. 106 overall – according to Pro Football Talk.
New York had expressed interest in Ivory leading up to the draft, and a trade was expected at some point this weekend. He was a
fourth-string running back for the Saints, and rather than risk having to cut
ties with him closer to camp they elected to collect a draft pick.
While he’s only had a limited role during his time with New
Orleans, he will be able to expand that with the Jets. He will be paired with
Mike Goodson – who was signed earlier this offseason – in what will be a
new-look Jets’ backfield.
