The Kansas City Chiefs have narrowed their No. 1 overall
selection in the upcoming NFL draft to four players, according to Albert Breer
of NFL.com.
Breer spoke with Chiefs’ general manager John Dorsey, who
shared the news with the reporter. The GM said the team plans to make a final
decision four days before the draft. He’s been meeting with head coach Andy
Reid three times per day to discuss the selection, and they’ll likely get more
involved in the week or so leading up to the draft.
Dorsey wouldn’t disclose the names of the four players, but
NFL.com speculates that at least one is offensive lineman Luke Joeckel. Another
could perhaps be West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith.
The Chiefs are still not ruling out trading the top
selection, as they could look to move the pick to acquire additional choices
later in the draft. Their pick could appeal to teams that covet Smith.
