The New York Jets have given the Tampa Bay Buccaneers permission to take CB Darrelle Revis through the physical process; including an examination of his recently injured knee. This could imply that a trade may be inevitable - most likely to happen on draft day (Thursday).
Darrelle Revis was considered the best corner in the league by most, at least prior to his injury. His current deal will become voidable in 2014 - and it's assumed that he will opt out of his remaining years. At the moment, his contract is worth $9,000,000 in 2013, 7th among CBs.
Revis' performance has taken a dip the last three seasons; having only played 31 games. He recorded 14 interceptions and 199 tackles his first three years in the league. He has only logged five picks and 95 tackles in the last three years.
Most people will consider Revis leaving the Jets as 'making a bad team worse.' I wouldn't judge so quickly. Nobody is going to argue that the Jets are in rebuilding years, and successful rebuilding isn't done around a 28 year old defensive back. The Jets could receive multiple top-50 picks for Revis over the next two years. I would be interested to see what will happen if they pursue a QB like Ryan Nissab - drafting Matt Barkley will be franchise suicide.
