Pittsburgh Steelers free agent linebacker James Harrison recently visited with the Cincinnati Bengals, and the team has a high level of
mutual interest in the veteran, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Rapoport adds that Harrison and the Bengals have yet to
being in-depth contract talks, but these could pick up over the weekend.
Cincinnati appears to covet Harrison as a base outside linebacker and nickel
pass-rusher, according to team sources.
Harrison was one of several linebackers hosted by the
Bengals this weekend, as they also received a visit from Karlos Dansby.
However, Harrison is the only one that Cincinnati is reportedly highly
interested in.
The Bengals have had to witness Harrison’s defensive prowess
over the years when they took on the Steelers. He isn’t the same player that he
was – as he’s now 34 years old – but it appears that he could be had for a reduced
contract. Harrison still showed an ability to rush the passer last season, and
the Bengals appear interested in seeing what they can get out of the veteran
for at least one more year.
