Bears rumors: Chicago open to Brian Urlacher return

The Chicago Bears and linebacker Brian Urlacher parted ways this offseason, as the veteran reportedly felt disrespected by the team’s offer – or lack thereof. Now, chairman of the board George McCaskey told reporters -- including Dan Pompei of The Chicago Tribune -- that he’s extremely sad Urlacher’s gone, but he wouldn’t completely close the door on a reunion.

"I said going into the process I’d be heartbroken if he didn’t come back and I am," McCaskey said at the Ed Block Courage Award luncheon at Maryville Academy Tuesday.  "Our whole family is. Brian’s just been the face of the franchise, an outstanding Bear on and off the field. But we knew going into it that it was a possibility that it might be this result."

McCaskey continued on to say that the “market” and Chicago’s front office members will determine if Urlacher ultimately returns to the Bears. He said the team continues to “go through” the free agency process and will see what happens when it comes to Urlacher.

While it was initially viewed as a sure thing that Urlacher would rejoin the Bears for another season, an agreement was unable to be reached. The sides parted ways last month after Urlacher received what he called a one-year, $2 million ultimatum from the team.
