Free agent cornerback William Gay, who was recently released
by the Arizona Cardinals, is scheduled to visit the Pittsburgh Steelers this
week, according to Matt Kaboly of The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Gay’s agent, Jerrold Colton, told reporters that the
Steelers are among a handful of teams that are expressing interest in the
veteran cornerback.
“There has been a lot of interest in him since his release, but the Steelers are very special to him,” Colton said. “He loves the organization, the coaches, the players, the city and Steelers Nation.”
Two days after he was released by the Cardinals in a salary
cap-related move, Gay tweeted that he was glad he didn’t sell his condo in
Pittsburgh just yet. This started the speculation that he could ultimately rejoin
the Steelers this offseason.
Steelers cornerback Keenan Lewis is an unrestricted free
agent, meaning he could be lost to another team. If that happens, Pittsburgh
could become seriously interested in Gay.
