By parting ways with the veterans, the Falcons saved nearly
$16 million in salary cap space.
Atlanta was widely expected to cut Turner this offseason.
The Falcons could wind up swapping one veteran running back for another, as
they’ve been tied to former St. Louis Rams rusher Steven Jackson.
There was also some thought that the Falcons could part ways
with Robinson, who was set to earn $8 million in 2013. His release gives
Atlanta more flexibility in their effort to re-sign cornerback Brent Grimes and
safety William Moore.
The biggest surprise of the day came in the form of Abraham.
Atlanta entered the offseason in need of pass rushers, and this requirement
only increases with the release of Abraham.
