If the New Orleans Saints miss out of free agent cornerback
Nnamdi Asomugha, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com wouldn’t be surprised to see the team
target defensive end/outside linebacker Dwight Freeney.

Don't be surprised when #Saints emerge as a player for Dwight Freeney, especially if they miss on Nnamdi. Still trying to upgrade pass-rush
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 25, 2013
Rapoport points out that the Saints continue to attempt to
upgrade their pass rush, and Freeney is one of the few free agents remaining
that could help in that area. There is likely to be a run on pass rushers
following the signing of Elvis Dumervil. Other than Freeney, defensive ends John
Abraham and Osi Umenyiora are also available.
Freeney struggled in the Indianapolis Colts 3-4 scheme last
season, and the Saints are planning to use a similar system in 2013. However,
if Freeney is asked to be more of a pass rush specialist and not an every down
linebacker, he could prove more effective.
Beyond the Saints, Freeney has also been linked to the
Denver Broncos this offseason.
