Cardinals rumors: Arizona could target Carson Palmer

With quarterback Carson Palmer “highly unlikely” to accept a pay cut from the Oakland Raiders – according to Adam Schefter of ESPN – it looks more likely that the team will elect to part ways with the veteran. If that happens, the Arizona Cardinals could be one of the teams to express interest in Palmer, according to Pro Football Talk.

Palmer has a preference to play on the West Coast, and money doesn’t seem to be his primary motivation. You can bet that the prospect of throwing passes to wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald would be a reason to at least consider Arizona.

And considering the barren market for quarterbacks, Arizona makes sense as a potential suitor for Palmer. The Cardinals are disappointed there’s no top quarterback in this year’s draft, and they are left deciding between career backups Drew Stanton and Brian Hoyer. While Palmer is in decline, he’d still figure to be an upgrade over the team’s current in-house options.
