New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora is considered to
be likely to land with either the Atlanta Falcons or the Miami Dolphins,
according to Pro Football Talk.
Umenyiora has spent the past nine seasons with the Giants. He’s
been an impressive player for the team, compiling 33.5 sacks from 2005-07 and
then 20.5 sacks from 2010-11.
While Umenyiora appeared in all 16 games for the Giants last
season, his sack total dropped to six. He’ll turn 32 years old in November, and
New York seems prepared to part ways with the veteran.
Umenyiora visited with the Falcons on Wednesday, and the
Dolphins are said to be considering making a run at the defensive end. Beyond Umenyiora,
there are several pass rushers remaining on the free agent market. Elvis
Dumervil is the big name, but there are also veteran options – including Dwight
Freeney and John Abraham.
