Now that the Kansas City Chiefs have reached an agreement for quarterback Alex Smith, they are expected to part ways with incumbent Matt
Cassel in the near future. When Cassel becomes available, the Arizona Cardinals
and Minnesota Vikings are viewed as two potential landing spots, according to
Chris Wesseling of NFL.com.

While there is somewhat of a market developing for Cassel,
it’s not expected to get to the point where a team will be interested enough to
trade for him. This is due to the fact that he’s set to earn $7.5 million in
2013 and $9 million in 2014, salaries that no one wants to guarantee at this
point.
Kansas City won’t want to carry him on their roster with
Smith now in the fold, so Cassel is expected to be released sooner than later.
When this happens the Cardinals and Vikings are expected to be among the teams
to express interest in the quarterback.
Arizona is seeking upgrades to its current trio of
quarterbacks, Kevin Kolb, John Skelton and Ryan Lindley. Minnesota is also
expected to show interest, as they look for a veteran to push Christian Ponder.
