Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware agreed to restructure his contract and save the team $4 million against the salary cap for 2013, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

While $4 million is a nice chunk of change, Rapoport notes that the Cowboys face the “daunting task” of clearing $20 million in cap space this offseason.

Beyond Ware, the team could also look to restructure other deals before it gets to the point of making major cuts. Other players that are candidates for a restructuring include Brandon Carr, Nate Livings, Kyle Orton, Orlando Scandrick, Miles Austin and Jason Witten.

It’s not clear yet who, if anyone, would be willing to take a pay cut. The process would have the team convert base salaries to bonuses, so there doesn’t necessarily have to be a cut involved.

Another move that could help the team’s cause would be reaching an agreement on a contract extension with quarterback Tony Romo. The veteran is currently slated to count $16.8 million against the team’s cap.
