Following Elvis Dumervil’s five-year agreement with the
Baltimore Ravens, the Denver Broncos are turning their attention to defensive
ends Dwight Freeney and John Abraham.

Denver was set to re-sign Dumervil earlier this offseason,
but a blunder on the part of the defensive end’s agent now has the team looking
elsewhere.
The Broncos are currently making a hard push to sign Freeney
– according to Michelle Beisner of NFL Network. The veteran is viewed as the
team’s top choice after Dumervil. If Denver is unable to reach an agreement
with Freeney, they will then likely shift their focus to Abraham.

Abraham sports the superior numbers over the past few
seasons, but Freeney is two years younger than the former Atlanta Falcons pass
rusher. Also, Freeney’s lack of productive last season is thought to be largely
due to the fact that he didn’t handle the transition to outside linebacker and
the 3-4 well. In Denver, he’ll return to a pass-rushing defensive end in the
team’s 4-3 scheme.
