The Baltimore Ravens will face several difficult salary cap
decisions this offseason, and it could result in the parting of ways with wide
receivers Anquan Boldin and Jacoby Jones and linebacker Paul Kruger, according
to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Entering the offseason, the Ravens project to be $5 million
over the salary cap. That would be before resolving the pending Joe Flacco
issue. If they fail to reach a long-term agreement with their quarterback and opt
to exercise the franchise tag, they would move up to $20 million over the cap.
This could result in the Ravens strongly considering
releasing veteran players, including Boldin and Jones. Cutting Boldin and Jones
would free up roughly $5.5 and $3.5 million in cap space.
The Ravens could also have a hard time re-signing free
agent-to-be Paul Kruger considering their upcoming cap crunch. Even if they
reach a long-term agreement with Flacco, it appears there will be some
difficult decisions coming in Baltimore this offseason.
